I think the biggest lie that many of us daily believe is that we have all the time in the world to do whatever it is we want to do. As I talk with colleagues, friends, and even strangers, one common thing I notice is, they have already planned out their life, down to the certain age they want things to happen. For example, I've heard many people say, "oh I'll probably get married when I'm thirty or forty." I've also heard people say, "oh I'll do this or that when my money is right." Even I, myself, have been guilty of saying these things. We have this idea that there is a perfect time to achieve the things we want out of life and there honestly isn't. As I look back on the time I've spent waiting for things to happen instead of actually making those things happen, I become saddened by all the time I've wasted. I want all of us to take a second and think about what it is we want out of life. Now what steps are you taking daily to achieve those very things that you thought of?
Idle Time- I am sure every one has heard someone say, Idle time is the devil's workshop. Idle time means non-productive time, time that amounts to nothing. I noticed that many people spend more time watching others live their lives while their own life slips by (i.e. social media, reality t.v.). In our world that looks like 4 hours spent on social media, 4 hours spent watching reality television, and 4 hours spent listening to music with no real message or meaning that will equal a good life/goodness, wasting half our day away. Now bear with me, I am not saying all of these things are inevitably horrible for you, but I am saying that there is more important, life giving opportunities out there for you to spend your time on.
"Whatever you feed your senses you allow to alter your thinking."
10 times out of 10 whatever we are listening to, watching, or saying is what we will produce. That's why when we hear a certain song, see a certain meme on social media, or watch something, we always say I cannot seem to get this out of my head. This has happened to me numerous times, so I decided to put a stop to it. If I am going to put something in my mind that I cannot seem to get out, it is going to be that of Goodness, Love, Joy, and Peace. Why? Because those are things that will lead me to where I want my life to go. Filling my head with things that only provide negative images and messages are not leading me anywhere at all. If I am going to fulfill my purpose I cannot waste anymore time with things that do not create fullness in me, add to my life, or create a pathway for success.
Plan of Action- Erase all the age, financial, and physical limitations you have put on pursuing your purpose. There are times where we focus on the world so much that we believe that we'll end up just like everyone else who was ever in our situation and that is not the truth. I am so hurt when I hear young men and women say they do not want to get married because either they do not have enough money acquired yet, their parents were divorced so they do not believe in it, or they believe placing a title on things brings destruction. Amazingly, it is the exact opposite, God blesses marriages. God loved marriage so much He compared it to how Christ loves us. Know that marriage is beautiful and it is part of our purpose to be joined as one. There is no monetary limit you must meet or job you must acquire to marry someone. When it is God's will for us to do something, He will provide along the way, no questions asked. The same goes for owning a business, going back to school, or any other purpose driven dream you may have. Do not let outside circumstances create the illusion that you cannot obtain what God has already made provision for. The amazing thing about God is that He has already provided the things we will need to pursue our purpose we just have to trust Him and listen to Him. Well, how do you listen to Him? After prayer, spend time in silence to give God time to speak to you, read your Bible (God truly speaks through His word, hence the reason its called the Book of Life), wise counsel (God will lead you to the right person), dreams, visions, new ideas, and the list goes on. He is waiting on you to make the first step, whatever that may be. It may look like that there is no way around your situation, but there is always a way, we just have to seek out different options. I know there have been times where I found myself constantly trying to find funding for school or starting a blog that I was told no. I did not let that stop me from pursuing, because I know God told me YES. There were times where I almost grew impatient because it looked like the clock was running out and that time was up, but I stood in Faith. We have to stand in Faith believing that if we trust God and do our part by putting a plan into action, that we will see our dreams come true. It will not be based on our age, finances, or any of that, but based on God's will, our obedience, and submission.
Valued Time: Now I am sure everyone has heard someone say, "Time is more valuable than money, because you cannot get time back." Well, its true, because we can never get time back that we've already lost, but we can make the most of the time we have left. I previously challenged everyone to spend 5 minutes of their morning speaking and confessing how they wanted their day to go. I want to challenge you now to value your time by ending each day full. What does a full day look like? For myself, I believe a full day looks like
My Prayer for each of you is that as you create your list, as you begin to ask God what your purpose is (everyone has a purpose) that you hear Him clearly and have no fear to put His words into action. Our lives are for God to judge only, therefore I pray that the influence of the world and any negativity will not distract you or pull you away from the mission. I pray that during this time God will place positive and influential people in your life to support you. I pray that this year your life will go far beyond anything you have ever imagined. That this year you will see increase in all areas of your life and that your time will be spent on things of value. I pray that we all have a year filled with Joy, Peace, Love, Endurance, and Gratitude. In Jesus name, Amen.
